“I feel the Moreland curriculum is so robust, and they keep evolving the curriculum based on the way the education world is changing.”

– Deepika Chhabra, International Educator & 2023 TEACH-NOW graduate

International teacher and Moreland University graduate Deepika Chhabra has been teaching for five years and currently teaches middle school math at the American School in Bucharest. She also taught at the American and British International Schools in Moscow as an elementary substitute and middle school teacher.

Originally working in marketing with her MBA, Deepika decided to transition to education after engaging with her children’s school as a parent, realizing that teaching was a career where she could thrive. Her peers recommended she look at Moreland’s TEACH-NOW Teacher Preparation Certificate Program to take that next step. These were teachers who successfully completed the TEACH-NOW program and passed the required certification exams in the first go, so she felt confident in the program.

When looking into the TEACH-NOW program, several benefits stood out to Deepika. Notably, affordability made the program an appealing option. She also appreciated Moreland’s flexible payment installments. She recommends that prospective candidates take a look at the costs and payment options as well as scholarship opportunities for eligible candidates.

“One word that I would use for the entire nine months I spent doing my TEACH-NOW certification was ‘inspiring.’”

– Deepika Chhabra, International Educator & 2023 TEACH-NOW graduate

For Deepika another benefit of the TEACH-NOW Program was the immediate applicability of Moreland’s coursework: “If I’m meeting with my cohort today, I had something to apply in my classroom [the] next day.”

One particular Moreland assignment stood out to her: For a lesson on curriculum mapping, she used an upcoming classroom lesson plan as her submission for the assignment. Since she was teaching fractions to her students the following week, she used Moreland’s template and rubric to help plan the lesson. She recognized improvement in the quality of her own teaching when comparing it to previous lessons she had taught and was inspired by positive student feedback.

As an international educator, Deepika loves that Moreland offers courses that move with the modern world. The diversity of the instructors and candidates stood out to her; she shared classrooms with educators from China, Africa, the United States, and more, all coming from different schools with different resources and goals.

Her experience with Moreland has helped her join an ever-growing community of educators around the world having maintained connections with her previous cohorts online. With such close bonds, she saw many of her colleagues seek guidance and recommendation letters from their mentors and instructors.

In addition to this global diversity, Moreland’s evolving 21st century coursework appealed to Deepika: “The education world is evolving so rapidly that you will get outdated very soon if you don’t keep on learning. TEACH-NOW inspired me to be a lifelong learner.”

Because her experiences with Moreland have been so personally and professionally fulfilling, Deepika hopes to become a mentor teacher for future candidates and pursue her master’s in education degree through Moreland. Encouraged by the relationships she’s created and the confidence in her teaching skills, Deepika looks forward to continuing her growth as an educator and a professional with Moreland.
