How to Become a Teacher in Minnesota

General Requirements
Minnesota requires educators to have a bachelor’s degree, complete an EPP, and fulfill a student internship for hands-on experience. Educators also need to complete required human relations coursework, pass all required assessments and complete a background check with fingerprinting.

Testing Requirements
Minnesota applicants who have completed a state-approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP), out-of-state teachers, and portfolio-based licensure candidates are exempt from the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLE) requirements. For details, visit the PELSB Testing page.
