Curious about what it takes to earn your U.S. teaching license as an international teacher? For international educators, we
recommend getting certified through Washington, D.C. Our comprehensive guide breaks down the key requirements:

General Requirements
Washington, D.C.’s certification requires educators to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. That degree does not necessarily have to be in education.

Testing Requirements
Teachers pursuing licensure through Washington, D.C. take the Praxis Core and Praxis Subject Assessments to ensure they meet general and subject-specific knowledge requirements.

Teacher Education Requirements
If your bachelor’s degree is in something other than education, you can earn your certification through an approved alternative Educator Preparation Program (EPP), such as Moreland’s TEACH-NOW program.

Moreland’s TEACH-NOW program is fully accredited and 100% online so it can be completed anywhere, anytime, with small, diverse classes, dedicated mentors, and clinical learning (student teaching) included.

Global Focus on Education Quality
International schools serve over 7.4 million students worldwide, with many focused on inquiry-based, student-centered learning.1

Immediate Job Openings Worldwide
Even with over 700,000 employees around the globe, international schools still have a significant number of teaching jobs open right now — including a need for 44 million primary and secondary teachers worldwide by 2030.

Cultural Immersion
Diving into new cultures and gaining a global perspective is one of the most common motivators for international teachers.1

Perks for Global Teachers
Many countries provide international teachers with perks beyond the classroom, such as housing stipends and travel reimbursement.

Travel Opportunities
Most educators choose to teach internationally for the chance to travel and explore professional growth in multiple countries.1

Professional Development
International schools are focusing on providing continued professional development opportunities for international teachers.1
