General Requirements
Florida teachers need a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. They also need to obtain an Official Statement of Eligibility (SOE), complete an Educator Preparation Institute (EPI), pass the required certification exams, and clear a background check.
Testing Requirements
Florida educators take the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE). These include a General Knowledge Test, a Professional Education Test, and Subject Area Exams.
Teacher Education Requirements
If your bachelor’s degree is in a field other than education, you don’t have to start over. You could earn your Florida certification through an alternative EPI, like the 9-month TEACH-NOW program.
