Connecticut has a list of approved Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs). If you prefer an out-of-state program, like Moreland University's TEACH-NOW program or the M.Ed. with Teaching Credential, you could earn your teaching certificate in another state and use Connecticut's streamlined reciprocity process to transfer the credential.

Curious about what it takes to become a licensed teacher in Connecticut?

General Requirements
Connecticut requires educators to have a minimum of a bachelor's degree and to complete an EPP, pass the required certification exams, and complete fingerprint and background checks.

Testing Requirements
Connecticut requires different assessments for each certification content area. The state works with multiple test providers, including Educational Testing Service (ETS), Pearson Education, and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Teacher Education Requirements
You need a minimum of a bachelor’s degree to teach in Connecticut. If your degree is in a field other than education, you could earn your certificate through an alternative EPP.

Is Moreland's teacher licensure program completely online?

Moreland University’s TEACH-NOW Teacher Preparation Certificate Program is 100% online.The clinical learning portion (student teaching) can be done in your current classroom. If you’re not currently teaching, we’ll help you find a placement for your student teaching.

Which accreditations and approvals has Moreland earned?

Moreland is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), among others. Moreland was the first online program to be accredited by CAEP.
