25+ Top School Leadership Resources from 2025
| by Hannah Sparling
The end of the calendar year — middle of the school year — is a great time to reflect. What went well in 2025 and where is there room for growth? What are you most proud of? What are your goals for next year and the second half of the school year?
With that in mind, we wanted to share some of our favorite school-leader resources from 2025. It’s more than 25 resources overall, broken down into 7 main categories. We hope you find them useful and inspirational as you take a much-deserved break and gear up for 2026.
#1: The School Leader Guide for Diverse Hiring
It’s a persistent problem in education: a teaching workforce that doesn’t match the diversity of its students. TNTP data shows that 22.8% of schools in the U.S. do not have a single teacher of color, and 14.4% of schools have just one teacher of color.
Moreland University Instructor Melissa Collins explains the significance:
Going through school, it wasn’t often that I saw teachers who looked like me. But I do remember one teacher, in particular, when I was in junior high. She was also African American. She was female. And you know, just watching her, I knew that at some point, I probably would be in education. Just seeing her and seeing how students like myself responded to her — she was so inspiring.
It stuck with me. I’m 40 years old now, and this was when I was like 13. So, you know, it’s important to have that representation, for students to be able to see themselves in their teachers.
Our School Leader Guide for Diverse Hiring has 5 strategies to help you recruit, hire, support, and retain diverse teachers. It contains insights from 7 school leaders with extensive experience in the U.S. and abroad, talking about diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, age, political ideology, career path, family structure, religion/spirituality, and more.

#2: Recruiting and Supporting Career Changers
Enrollment is declining in traditional teacher preparation programs, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an average of more than 200,000 open K-12 teaching jobs each year over the next decade. To fight the shortages, school leaders are turning to career changers and alternative paths to certification. And that can be a good thing!
From Moreland University Curriculum Manager Fayth Buriff, who is herself a career changer:
The traditional path to teaching is great, but career changers can make excellent teachers as well. While they may initially lack traditional classroom experience or pedagogy, career changers do have years and years of life experience.
Who better to teach math than a former architect — someone who can finally answer that age-old question: ‘When am I ever going to use this?’
Who better to teach history than a former museum curator? Or biology than a former doctor?
Our on-demand webinar, Teacher Workforce: How to Recruit and Empower Career Changers, features a panel of experienced school leaders and offers fresh ideas and perspectives on how to recruit career changers and support their early years in the classroom.

#5: Professional Development Support
Most educators have a story about a professional development session that, well, didn’t do much developing. Maybe you had to sit in a room for hours while someone read from a PowerPoint. Maybe you had to participate in a course that had nothing to do with your role or day-to-day realities.
A Pew Research Center survey shows only 36% of teachers are satisfied with their opportunities for training and developing new skills. But these 5 blog posts can help you weed out some of the common issues with teacher PD and focus on training that adds true value:

#6: Guide for Better Teacher Recruitment & Retention
Seventy percent of teachers say their school is understaffed, according to the Pew Research Center, and UNESCO says there’s an “urgent need for 44 million primary and secondary teachers worldwide by 2030.”
Part of the solution lies in teacher recruitment, and part in retention, nurturing and developing the educators already in our systems. This guide has practical solutions for both sides of that equation, with ideas to help you:
- Attract and hire quality teachers
- Improve professional development
- Grow teacher satisfaction
- Increase teacher retention
