Why We Created the D.C. Teacher Impact Scholarship

Moreland University is proud to honor the incredible achievement of Jazzmyne Townsend, a 2015 alumna and the 2025 D.C. Teacher of the Year. As a dedicated educator at Stanton Elementary School and an award-winning children’s author, Townsend’s 16 years of service have profoundly impacted the lives of countless DCPS students.

In recognition of her hard work and commitment, we created the D.C. Teacher Impact Scholarship to support other DCPS teachers in their professional growth. This scholarship is our way of celebrating Townsend’s legacy and empowering more educators to make a lasting difference in the D.C. community.
